Audra is a unique artist with regard to the scope and range of her skills as a performer and song writer. In 2015, she won record-breaking 6 Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. Her name was also cited as a result of Time magazine among the 100 most influential people, and she was also awarded an award called the National Medal of Arts - the top prize in America for excellence in art and achievement - by President Barack Obama. She is equally at home in television, film and Broadway. The luminous tone of her voice is a perfect fit for the stage. As well as her stage work, she maintains a major career as a recording and concert performer who regularly appears at top venues around the globe. McDonald grew in Fresno California, where she was surrounded by a large family of musicians. While at the Juilliard School in New York City, McDonald received training as a classical singer. She won her debut Tony Award in 1994 for the best performance of a Featured actress in a musical, Carousel which was staged at Lincoln Center Theater. In the following four years, she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances of The Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's show Master Class (1996) and his Musical Ragtime (1998) giving her an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004 she won her fourth Tony starring alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun and in 2012, she took home her fifth--and her first in the lead actress category for her title role performance as the title character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. The Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she played as the title character in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. It is the same role she played in her 2017 West End London debut for which she was named for the Olivier Award. Along with setting records for the highest number of wins in an award-giving category by an actor, she became the first actor to receive awards in each of the four types of acting. The credits she has in the theater are The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (993) Henry IV (2004) and 110 in the Shade (707). Twelfth Night was McDonald's Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut. Shuffle Along is the Making of the Musical Seduction in 1921 and the Drama That Followed. Frankie Johnny on the Clair de Lune. and Ohio State Murders. The Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sisters The First 100 Years which initially introduced McDonald to television audiences for her performance as a dramatic actor. In 1999, she starred along with Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. In addition, she played an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in the year 2000. Following the first Emmy nomination in recognition of her role in the HBO film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Wit written by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned on television network in 2003 on the drama about politics Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and with Josh Brolin. In early 2006 she joined the cast of the WB's The Bedford Diaries and over the next season she had a recurring role on the NBC television show Kidnapped. McDonald received a nomination for a fourth Emmy in the year 2016 for her performance in HBO's movie in the series Lady Day, at Emerson's Bar and Grill. The Bite will be a six-episode drama about a pandemic that will be produced by Spectrum Originals, CBS Studios and Taylor Schilling in 2021. McDonald appeared as U.S. prosecutor Liz Lawrence, a character she first appeared on the CBS drama The Good Wife legal drama in 2009. The role was reprised in the year 2018, playing Season the regular Liz Reddick in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. As a result of her role, McDonald received three Critics Choice Award nominees. McDonald guest-stars on Julian Fellowes historical drama The Gilded Age.
